Place: Sula
04.11.2022I applied the criteria to my life and started LIVING! Case study 1: Sula.
Indoor.
Mostly outdoor but the bar is inside but most social activitiy happens outside. But in the case of snow we could go inside ahahhahahDiverse in use.
Bar. Housed within a building with a church, printers, graphic designers, clothing stores, smoke shop. The tall buildings adjacent house a bank, residencial units, and more!? Sula itself is a bar on weekends and a restaurant during the week.Diverse in ppl.
Very gay, very diverse (but more white than not). Not many young people from what I can see. But when I went to a samba show there the church people spilled out into the bar area and danced along.A place where I go naturally.
I didn’t even have my eyes on this place but I ended up going with 1) my advisor during a tour of places in the city that have multiple layers of use; 2) a friend on a friday night for dancing; 3) two days later I was walking down the street and ran into ANOTHER friend who was with HER friends and they were going to a samba in the middle of a day on a Sunday and invited me along.Public and private space.
Public outdoor courtyard with privately owned commercial space along edges.Within the city center.
Very much so. It also connects to the “Viaduto Santa Tereza” which hosts a large skate community as well as the famous “duelo do MCs” which is a gigantic rap battle that occupies the underbelly of the viaduct. On the other side of the viaduct is “Rua Sapucaí” which is a street that overflows with life in the evenings as people come to drink and party with their COOL FRIENDS.Commercial space.
Bountiful.Reuse of an old building.
This plot of land has lived so many lives. Many layers of different buildings, closing and opening of the courtyard, addition and subtraction of structures.Cultural work.
Sula is a bar that is overflowing with music and culture.Where I feel good
Omg I had so much fun^fun
Please enjoy these portrayals of Sula.
